Our Story.
World Without Barriers was born in 2007 during the first of what would become many trips to the Amazon jungle.
It was in the Peruvian Amazon that our founders were moved by the warmth and openness of the people who seemingly had so little, yet were so rich with love, happiness, and culture. Their thirst for life despite a lack of resources and opportunities was inspiring and humbling.
How could they be so happy with so little? Our founders kept coming back to this question until it became apparent that only when happiness is redefined away from consumption-driven standards and instead tied to relationships and a respect for others and nature does it become more achievable; however, it does not end the financial, food, and health insecurities that persist.
That is why our founders, paddling in a dugout canoe in the middle of the dense jungle, pledged to help break the cycle of poverty, to systematically break down the barriers that obstruct people and communities from advancing and thriving, and to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
While our founders at the time did not comprehend the magnitude of what they were undertaking, they knew one thing: it was worth trying.
Over the ensuing years, our founders would work to create sustainable opportunities and enable access to quality education so that marginalized groups and communities could enjoy a better standard of living, in Africa, South America, Asia, and beyond. As a result, World Without Barriers has improved thousands of lives with plans to help many more.
Since that first trip, our mission, approach, and nearly everything else that makes World Without Barriers Inc. the organization it is today has evolved. Our scope and impact have grown exponentially, but our core values remain the same: transparency, humility, integrity, respect, safety, and a shared sense of togetherness on this planet.
Also unchanged is our founders’ vision, which is to help people help themselves while they lead and control their own destiny. We respect and embrace our differences to facilitate positive change. That is how World Without Barriers aims to make the world a better place, the type of world in which our founders want to live.
